The enviable safety record of the ALIMAK equipment is attained through a patented rack and pinion system, double limit switches, an overrun safety device at the top of the mast, double safety hooks around the corner tubes of the mast, and coil springs at the bottom of the mast.

The rack and pinion is the principal component of the safety system.  If the pinion attains excessive speed, as in the case of a falling lift, a centrifugal weight engages a brake cone and drum bringing the lift to a smooth halt.  It simultaneously cuts power.
